New York City is known for its unparalleled blend of ethnic cuisines. We are known for eating. That’s not to say that we’re connoisseurs, Iron Chefs, or even people who are marginally good at cooking (we don’t even own a stove). But with a combined 50 years of eating experience, and undeniably adventurous spirits, we’re certainly up to the challenge.
What challenge, you ask?
The foodlympics: 32 hand-selected ethnic cuisines, pitted against each other in a tournament-style ultimate showdown of yummy goodness (as judged by our admittedly unrefined palates).
How it works.
We chose our ethnic foods based on the following criteria: 1. There must be at least 5 restaurants of the chosen ethnicity across the 5 NYC boroughs and 2. They must have popped into our heads when we came up with the idea for this tournament.
That left us with a short list of 32 ethnic foods:
• American • Middle Eastern • Spanish • Mexican • Greek • Cuban • Puerto Rican • Colombian • Venezuelan • Brazilian • Peruvian • Belgian • English/Irish • French • Italian • German/Austrian • Indian • Thai • Slavic • Vietnamese • Korean • Chinese • Japanese • Russian • Ethiopian • Nordic • Moroccan • Egyptian • Senegalese • Filipino • Trini • Dominican
